At M3 Chiropractic & Wellness (your Denver Chiropractor) we are passionate about improving the quality of life for our patients. We believe the purpose of Chiropractic is not the treatment of a specific condition or symptom, but the reduction of stresses and interference to the nervous system allowing for an overall improvement in your functionality and range of motion, therefore improved your quality of life.
As your Denver Chiropractor I receive questions on a regular basis about Chiropractic care and what it’s all about. Here is a list of some common questions:
What type of education and training do chiropractors have?
Educational and licensing requirements for doctors of chiropractic (DCs) are among the most stringent of any of the health care professions. DCs are educated in nationally accredited, four-year doctoral graduate school programs through a curriculum that includes a minimum of 4,200 hours of classroom, laboratory and clinical internship, with the average DC program equivalent in classroom hours to allopathic (MD) and osteopathic (DO) medical schools.
What conditions can a Chiropractor treat?
Chiropractors are not only proficient in spinal injury, neck and back pain, we treat muscles, joints and ligament issues outside of the spine such as shoulders, elbows, wrists, elbows, knees, ankles and feet (to name a few). With the advanced educations in treating extremities, neurology, functional medicine, orthopedics, nutrition (to name a few) as your Denver Chiropractor I can help you with many acute, sub-acute and chronic issues outside of your spinal dysfunction. Refer to my previous blog for additions details.
How is a chiropractic adjustment performed?
Chiropractic adjustment or manipulation is a manual procedure that utilizes the highly refined skills developed during the intensive years of chiropractic education. The chiropractor typically uses his/her hands to manipulate the joints of the body, particularly the spine, in order to reduce pain, and restore or enhance joint function. Chiropractic manipulation is a highly controlled procedure that rarely causes discomfort.
Why is there a popping sound when a joint is adjusted?
A Chiropractic manipulation of a joint may result in release of gases between the joints which makes an audible popping sound – it’s exactly the same as when you “crack” your knuckles. The noise is caused by the change of pressure within the joint that results in gases being released. Note, the audible sound does not always occur, but this doesn’t mean your joint manipulation was ineffective.
Is chiropractic treatment ongoing?
Chiropractic treatment is a hands on modality and is essentially what requires patients to visit the chiropractor a number of times. A chiropractor may provide acute, chronic, and/or preventative care thus making a certain number of visits sometimes necessary. As your Denver Chiropractor I will review you present symptoms, diagnosis and recommend a treatment plan (frequency and duration) specific to your chief complaint and supporting structures.
Does chiropractic treatment require a referral from an MD?
No, in general a patient does not need a referral by their PCP before visiting a doctor of chiropractic. There are individual situations where a referral is required based on your insurance policy. When scheduling an appointment we will contact your insurance company to verify your eligibility, copay, co-insurance, coverage and if a referral is required.
Do insurance plans cover chiropractic?
The majority of insurance companies have coverage for chiropractic services. There are some limitations, co-insurance, and co-pays which determines the amount of covered by your insurance policy. When scheduling an appointment we will contact your insurance company to verify your eligibility, copay, co-insurance, and coverage.
